PURPOSE

The Christian Sentinel publications hope to be a voice of biblical reason in the face of secular and religious trends that shipwreck the faith of many. It sees the souls of those for whom Christ died as precious and worth fighting for against the forces of deception that are on the increase in these perilous times. It believes that if the scriptural injunction to expose the unfruitful works of darkness (Eph. 5:11) is followed then many believers will be able to use caution when confronted with counterfeit Christianity. It hopes to enlighten, encourage, and equip the saints in the defense of the faith.

However, the Christian Sentinel does not want to exclusively focus on what’s wrong in today’s church and society. It also wants to report on the good news that is happening and pay tribute to today’s saints who are risking so much to share the love of Jesus around the world. A wise man once said that when you hold up the brass serpent, make sure to hold up the cross of Christ as well. The serpent represents the sins of the world and the cross represents the remedy. The Christian Sentinel wants to glorify our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and serve His true followers.

Christian Journalism for Discerning Believers in Perilous Times

The Christian Sentinel is a publication of Eastern Christian Outreach (EChO), a ministry that started in 1986 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to help young people coming out of religious cults. EChO sponsored week-end fellowships at the Jersey Shore and had a home Bible study where ex-cultists could get together, share their experiences, and study God’s word with like-minded people. Bill Alnor was the founding leader who also organized groups of believers to hand out tracts and evangelize cultists in the east coast. Bill was also active writing for several Christian publications on the subject of cults and was a daily newspaper reporter in the Philadelphia area.

In 1987 Bill met Jackie Miller, an apologetics student at Simon Greenleaf University and publisher of the New Age Alert newsletter. They married later that year and joined forces documenting and writing about cults as well as cultic trends in the church. Bill and Jackie Alnor began The Christian Sentinel magazine in 1991 that published periodically until 1999. Since moving to the Corpus Christi, Texas area in 2002 they have managed an on-line version of the magazine which is now updated monthly.

William Alnor is a professor at Texas A&M University - Kingsville, where he directs the journalism program, advises the university newspaper, and advises a campus Christian student fellowship. He oversees the work of the Christian Sentinel’s publications and ministry.
