The Christian Sentinel February 1999 issue
A Modern Mark of the BeastBy Jackie Alnorã 1999 Christian Sentinel Now, for the first time stock can be bought in a company with a biblical guarantee of success! You can invest in the computer company that is now marketing the technology that will be used by the antichrist to place a mark in every global citizen without which no one will be able to buy or sell. "He [the antichrist] causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand or in their foreheads: And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name" Revelation 13:16-17. Prophecy teachers have been speculating about this possibility for decades now, but it is no longer a mere likelihood – it’s a reality. What’s the mark of the beast called? The Trademark name is "Digital Angel." A press release sent out by Applied Digital Solutions on December 15, 1999, describes it this way: "Inserted just under the skin, with maintenance-free regenerating power supply, miniature ‘Digital Angel’ has multi-billion dollar market potential. . .The implantable transceiver sends and receives data and can be continuously tracked by GPS (Global Positioning Satellite) technology. . . When implanted within a body, the device is powered electromechanically through the movement of muscles, and it can be activated either by the ‘wearer’ or by the monitoring facility." The Palm Beach, Florida-based company was ranked ninth by Delotte & Touch’s "Technology Fast 500" which rates the top 500 growing technology companies in America. At $7.00 a share, it would be a sure thing to invest in for anyone who could ignore its sinister implications. The placing of a computer chip under the skin of pets has been in use for several years now, but the information it contained was minuscule compared to the "Digital Angel." The new technology goes beyond merely identifying a lost dog. According to the promoter’s literature, it has potential applications to "provide a tamper-proof means of locating and identifying individuals for e-business and e-commerce security (ie: financial transactions that are thief-proof); locate individuals, including children, who are lost or who have been abducted; monitor the medical conditions of at-risk patients; track and locate military, diplomatic and other essential government personnel; track the whereabouts of wilderness sports enthusiasts (mountain climbers, hikers, skiers, etc.)." Those all sound like noble uses for it, but Applied Digital Solutions admits that their focus will be on the commerce applications and they expect to have a prototype of the device by the end of the year 2000. For a more in-depth look at the company, and an opportunity to write to the CEA with your concerns, check out their web-page at: It is amazing that this company can promote this kind of technology at a time when the public concern over the invasion of privacy is at an all time high. And their promotional rhetoric boasts of a remote monitoring facility that can locate any implanted receiver on any person anywhere on the planet. They say that "the potential global market for this device – in all of its applications – could exceed $100 billion." This is no understatement! When those who receive this implant break out in sores all over their body, I wonder if Applied Digital Solutions will still back their product. "So the first [angel] went and poured out his bowl upon the earth, and a foul and loathsome sore came upon the men who had the mark of the beast. . ." Revelation 16:2.
EPILOGUE My children asked me what would happen to those who had the mark of the beast implanted by force. That’s a good question! Perhaps the Lord gave such people a contingency plan in the gospels. "And if thy hand offend thee, cut it off; it is better for thee to enter into life halt or maimed, than having two hands to go into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched" (Mark 9:43). "But what if it was inserted in the forehead? The children objected. "Well,: I responded, "perhaps the implant can be accessed through the eye socket if one plucks out an eye." Just a thought!
